I can not advice on the best way to make it happen since I am still failing to make it happen for me. But, at least in my case, having straight forward conversation was a bad decision. She said no. And now every move I make to go in that direction or even speak about the topic - she recognises what I am doing and is stopping it immediately.
The soft and longer way is probably better. Obviously there are women which already want it and straight forward conversation works fine, but that's not actually convincing, it's just getting on the same page.

OMG as a female I can say that there are pretty clear signals. If she would be totally against it she would react with anger, silence or discust! I recognize myself so much in her reaction, because from my perspective, I had never thought about it. It is not something you do as a married couple! But my husband was very patient. Because women in general are conditioned with the rituals of daily life, raising children, work, and visiting relatives, groceries (of course men also their part in all of that but more with a helicopter view) etc... and would do everything to protect that safe zone bubble. They forget sometimes their younger years when they were joking about or even longing a date with that cute guy...

By socializing (again), wives have a chance to re-discover this long-forgotten world. During such moments, you can play the game of "hey, this guy has been watching you all the time since we entered the venue, did you notice?" Or "which one of them attracts you most?"?

It's all about planting slowly the seeds without forsing.
